Treviso and Venice Pictures

Treviso

Venice

Day 189

Ahem, so, it's sort of become March and I haven't posted about Venice like I said I would. So, while M is playing with a friend in her room and Adele is playing I'll see what I can fill you in on! (The last couple of weeks have been rather full and exciting, so forgive me if I get jumbled!)
*just had to explain to them that there's no chocolate behind the calendar, and that you only get that in special Christmas calendars..*
So, I left early Monday morning from G's parents' house, and took the train from Treviso to Venice. It was a really rather crowded and hot train journey, as everyone was going for Carnevale, but it wasn't long before I was exiting the train station onto the Canale di Cannaregio. So beautiful! (I mean, Venice in general is beautiful, but what a great way to start the day?!) And despite it being only9:30am ish, there were already a lot of people out
*continuing three days later, whilst waiting for Clare*
So many people were dressed up, and the majority had masks on. Normally, I'm not a big fan of a mask, but when it comes to Venetian masks, I'm a huge fan! (Hannah, I think you may have played a part in that!). And sure enough, by midday I joined in with the fun and had bought myself one after wandering the streets and looking in every authentic shop I came to. It's nothing like what I had in mind, but when I saw it I just knew it was the one (*cough* it just so happened to cost 45€...oooooopsies!).
Fortunately I managed a cheap lunch and ate it in Piazza San Marco, in the midst of the celebrations. The next couple of hours were spent wandering in the sunshine, reaching the opposite end of Venice and then wandering my way back. I happened upon an organ recital that was going on, and so I spent a little while listening in on that. (I think I've been spoiled as far as good organs/organists are concerned, because it really wasn't as impressive as it could have been!)
By mid afternoon I was really rather exhausted, still being ill and all - Nonna in Treviso had accosted me when I came out of my room that morning with a thermometer to check if I had a fever due to the amount I was coughing over night. I didn't, so hence I was allowed to go! So, I found a bench in the sun and read for an hour or so until some gypsies came near and started asking for food...I made a swift exit then! Somehow I found my way back to the train station and figured out what I needed to do and what train to take later on in order to meet G to come back to Rome, and then I was at a loose end for three hours. Two of those were spent drinking a hot mulled wine, phoning parents and eating a Burger King. If I'm honest, I was done with Venice and wanted nothing more than to be snuggled up and warm somewhere, but that's not because I didn't like it - I love it - I was just cold and ill and alone, so I'd want to go back when the situation is the opposite!
In the last hour, I hopped on a train to the station where I was meeting G and then grabbed a coffee and sat down to read again. (Honestly, I know how boring I sound; I go to Venice and end up spending a crazy amount of time just sitting and reading...I promise next time I go will be different!).
The train back was good but long, and it was so nice to be warm to read for the few hours travelling!!
That's it for now, I've had a busy couple of weeks, so I really should fill you all in on some of that when I have the chance!
Ciao!!
